An Attis Theatre, Turkish National Theatre, Epidaurus Festival and Istanbul International Festival co-production.
The play will be staged on May 16 in the Byzantine church of Agia Eirini, raising the curtain on the 4th Theatrical Olympiad, which is being held in Istanbul in collaboration with the Istanbul International Festival.

This co-production brings together Michail Marmarinos from Greece (Theseum Ensemble) and Paul Koek from the Netherlands (Veenfabriek). The fruit of the labours of the two directors and artistic directors will be staged in Holland first, in April 2006. The bilingual (Greek and Dutch) production required two new translations--from ancient Greek into Dutch, and from Dutch into modern Greek—both of which were overseen by the renowned classicist, Herman Altena, who served as dramatist to Hollandia over a number of years.

A musical production based on the poetic language of tragedy and of the chorus, a core building block of both tragedy and comedy. The production includes twenty two lyrical compositions incorporating parts for chorus from works by the three ancient tragedians and by Aristophanes, translated and interlinked by K.C. Myris.
The verses have been set to music by contemporary Greek composers and song-writers.

WOMEN’S LAMENTS – SOPHOCLES’ HEROINES

A composition by Nikos Xydakis comprising five sung and four instrumental sections. The work is based on the five heroines of Sophocles—Tecmessa, Electra, Jocasta, Deianeira and Antigone--as they mourn the husbands and relations they have lost, abandoned, or been abandoned by.

PIANDAEMONIUM
6 pianos – 12 pianists
Piandaemonium was conceived of by the pianist Domna Eunouchidou, who imagined a concert bursting with freshness, vivacity and youthful enthusiasm. A total of twelve pianists take part in the concert, playing works from both the Greek and international repertoires.
